Business Card – Preview
Posted by Eric Bandholz in Portfolio on July 28, 2009
Well, since I finally settled in Spokane I got around to designing my business card. I decided in this version to mimic the look from the website as well as twitter to keep a consistent image and look. It is essentially a shrunk down version of the website. It feels as if it is a bit too wordy for me as I tend to make things simple and clean. Give me some feedback on what y’all think as that would be much appreciated.
Socialism in Venezuela

Whenever I have a chance, I like to learn a little bit about the people I am interacting with. These people will typically be bank tellers, grocery cashiers, or any random restaurant employee. I love talking with people that have immigrated to America from other countries, and surprisingly I have met a lot of people from Ecuador which is neat because a friend of mine is married to an Ecuadorian. I never knew there was such a large group of people from there until recently.
Today while at Sprint getting my Palm Pre exchanged for a new one (because of a dead pixel or maybe it was dust under the screen) I learned that my attendant was from Venezuela. She (Vanessa) was a younger woman and has been in America for about 6 years. I asked her what she thought of Hugo Chavez and immediately she had a scowl on her face and stated that he was crazy. Digging in deeper I found out that her father sent her here and he came to America about 3 years ago. Curious about their immigration to America I asked if the state had confiscated her father’s business and she told me the story about her family.
Bing + Google = Bingle
Posted by Eric Bandholz in Ramblings on July 5, 2009

Microsoft is going through a re-branding of their search services and claiming that they have improved search. They have changed from “Live” to “Bing” and are advertising like mad. A friend of mine has created the website Bingle (http://bingle.pwnij.com) which allows users to compare Bing and Google.
After using Bingle, I have found that Google is quicker to update their results and had Wakomo listed quicker and the revamp of Bandholz.com listed before Bing. It also appears that Microsoft thinks that results from their services are better than other things on the net (it is showing my never used MSN live account 5th in the results for “Eric Bandholz”). I do however find myself using Bing’s maps. It is very similar to Google maps but with a different source of their satellite and the “Bird’s Eye” feature which is pretty cool.
Bingle has a cool feature that allows you to view either only Google or only Bing by clicking on “all google” or “all bing” respectively. So go over there and try it for yourself. Also, follow the jump to see a mockup of a site redesign I did for him.
Xbox 360 love
Posted by Eric Bandholz in Ramblings on July 2, 2009
Well, unfortunately my Xbox 360 got the ring of death a couple of weeks ago while watching a DVD. The sorta good news is: 1) this is only the first time it happened and 2) it’s still under warranty. When I get to Spokane I will file the repair request – or however that works. I’m glad I didn’t purchase Xbox Live this year because I wouldn’t have been using it much while it’s been out of commission.
But that brings me to Ben Heckendorn. If you are a frequent reader of Engadget you are probably familiar with who he is, but for those who are not he likes to hack up consoles (both new and old). He just recently finished his fifth version of his Xbox 360 Laptop which I think is way cool. So go over to his blog and check out this way cool project.
