Temple Smoke is a dark-chamber perfume. Old Money is a polished parlor perfume. Same house. Two rooms. No winner.
What Do Temple Smoke and Old Money Share?
Not one note shows up on both tables. What they share is the house format and the price.
Both sit in oil at about 20 percent fragrance. Both come in 20 mL glass roll-ons. Both are $45 for 20 mL. Full bottle stories live on What Is Temple Smoke Perfume? and What Is Old Money Perfume?.
Temple Smoke is woodsmoke, palo santo, and frankincense in the dark. Old Money is grapefruit, ginger, and leather woods in a lit room.
How Does a Temple Differ From a Parlor?
Temple Smoke starts in a dark sacrificial chamber. A golden effigy sits on a carved pedestal. You grab it, the room shakes, and a stone ball comes rolling. You run through clouds of burning oud, frankincense, and myrrh. Oud and myrrh live in that story. The table itself is woodsmoke on top, palo santo and vanilla in the middle, and frankincense with patchouli in the base.
Old Money is after-dinner drinks with George Washington Vanderbilt II in the parlor of the Biltmore Estate. Think Gilded Age hardwood, peppery curtains, and bright citrus. Grapefruit and bergamot open it. Ginger, mint, and ylang ylang fill the heart. Leather, amber, oak, sandalwood, and cedarwood make the floor and the paneling.
The temple is sweet smoke in a closed room. The parlor is bright polish over old wood. Life isn't binary. Anyone can buy either.
Where Do the Notes Sit in Each Bottle?
Temple Smoke: TOP Woodsmoke | MIDDLE Palo Santo, Vanilla, Spice | BASE Frankincense, Patchouli. It is a short table. Smoke opens it, and resin closes it.
Old Money: TOP Grapefruit, Bergamot | MIDDLE Ginger, Mint, Ylang Ylang | BASE Leather, Amber, Oak, Sandalwood, Cedarwood. It is a longer table. Citrus opens it, and a base of leather, amber, and three woods holds it down.
Both are $45 for 20 mL. See Temple Smoke and Old Money.
How Do You Choose Between Them?
Pick the room you want. The temple calls for something dark and sweet that smokes. The parlor calls for something bright up top with leather and wood underneath. Some days call for one. Other days call for the other.
Price will not decide it for you, because they cost the same. Pick on the room.
